If you are losing your hair in Bangkok, you can choose between very different kinds of provider: transplant clinics, dermatology and wellness clinics, wig shops and hair system studios. Each will naturally explain why its own option is the right one. This page puts the four options side by side, using the same criteria for each.
We run a hair system studio on Sukhumvit Soi 13, Trendy Office Building, Bangkok, between Nana and Asok BTS stations, open Mon–Fri 10:00–19:00 · Sat 09:00–17:00, so we are not neutral. To keep the comparison fair, every price for an option we do not offer comes from a public source, linked at the bottom of the page, and we describe each option by what it does rather than by who sells it.
The four options in one paragraph each
Hair system: a thin base with hair, matched to your colour and texture, attached to the thinning or bald area and cut into your own hair. No surgery, visible result at the fitting appointment, regular maintenance and a replacement typically every 8–14 months.
Hair transplant: a surgical procedure under local anaesthetic that moves follicles from the back and sides of the head to the thinning area. The transplanted hair grows in over many months and is limited by how much donor hair you have.
Treatment (PRP, medication and similar): aims to slow hair loss or thicken existing hair. It works on thinning hair, not on areas that are already bald, and usually needs to be continued to keep the effect.
Wig: a complete hairpiece that sits on top of the head and is put on and taken off by you, usually every day. Wig shops offer synthetic and natural-hair wigs in ready-made styles.
Cost: upfront and over time
A hair system at our Bangkok studio costs 12,900–22,800 THB depending on size, with custom-made systems quoted after a free consultation. On top of that come regular maintenance and a replacement typically every 8–14 months, at the price of a new system.
Public price lists show hair transplants in Thailand from about 80,000 THB up to several hundred thousand THB, depending on technique, number of grafts and clinic¹. The cost is mostly a one-time payment, although some people need a further session later if their hair loss continues.
PRP for hair loss is priced per session: from about 6,800 THB per session in Bangkok, with public price lists for Thailand up to about 22,000 THB per session². Clinics usually sell it as a series of sessions, and medication adds a monthly cost for as long as you take it.
Wigs vary most in price. Bangkok wig shops list natural-hair wigs from about 2,000 to 10,000 THB as a starting price depending on the shop, and a machine-made full wig for men from 5,900 THB at one shop³.
Time to result
A hair system and a wig show their result immediately when they are put on: the hair system at the fitting appointment, the wig as soon as you wear it. A transplant needs many months for the transplanted hair to grow in, and the final result takes longer still. Treatment works gradually, and how much it helps differs from person to person.
Risk and side effects
A transplant carries the risks of any surgery, such as infection, scarring and grafts that do not grow, and needs a recovery period. Treatment can have side effects depending on the method or medication, which a doctor should explain. A hair system involves no surgery; a skin reaction to the adhesive is possible, which is one reason the attachment method is chosen individually. A wig carries no medical risk.
Maintenance and daily life
A hair system needs regular cleaning, re-attaching and cutting, at intervals that depend on the adhesive and your lifestyle, and it is not taken off every day. A wig is put on and taken off by you and needs cleaning and styling. A transplant needs little care after recovery, but the hair around it can keep thinning. Treatment needs to be continued for as long as you want the effect.
Which option suits whom
As a rough guide, before you speak to any provider:
- Early thinning and you want to keep your own hair: start with a doctor about treatment.
- Moderate, stable loss and enough donor hair, and you prefer a one-time procedure: a transplant can be the right choice.
- Any stage of loss, including complete baldness on top, and you want the result at your fitting without surgery: a hair system.
- Occasional use, or you prefer something you take off every day: a wig.

What is the cheapest way to deal with hair loss in Bangkok?
Upfront, a wig or a course of treatment usually costs least, but treatment only helps thinning hair and needs to be continued. Compare the cost over the years you plan to wear the result, not just the first payment, and include maintenance, replacements and repeat sessions for every option.
Is a hair system the same as a wig?
No. A wig sits on top of your head and you put it on and take it off yourself, usually every day. A hair system is attached to the thinning area, cut into your own hair and maintained at a studio, so you do not take it off every day. Both are non-surgical.
